This course consists of 5 modules:

- STCW Proficiency in Security Awareness
- STCW Elementary First Aid
- STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
- STCW Personal Survival Techniques
Who Should Attend
The STCW Basic Safety Training course (STCW 95/10) is the legal minimum requirement for anyone looking to work commercially, in any position, aboard vessels over 24 metres, in accordance with section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code.
No prior knowledge is necessary.
Working on cruise ships, ferries or large yachts?
Anyone working on a passenger-carrying vessel is also required to hold the STCW Crowd Management for Passenger Ships certificate. This half-day course can be added on to your Basic Training Package. Click here for more information.
Certificate
On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded your certificate. The Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting and the Personal Survival Techniques elements expire after 5 years and you will need to attend a refresher course. The other elements do not expire.

Course Content

1) If You Are Travelling By CarYou must use the entrance via McKinley Way to GATE 4. This entrance is a staffed security barrier entrance that is open 24/7. Once through the security gate we are by the yellow crash barriers on the first bend. SEE MAP FOR PICTURES OF GATE
2) If You Are Walking, Cycling or Scooting
You must use the EAST QUAY entrance on Beach Road, Newhaven, BN9 0BX. This entrance is staffed from 6am to 6pm. At weekends or outside these hours you will need to ring the security buzzer to gain entry as it is remotely staffed. There is NO vehicle entry at weekends, ONLY pedestrians and cyclists etc. SEE MAP FOR DIRECTIONS FROM PORT ENTRANCE
3) If You Are Travelling By TrainThere are 2 stops available to you, namely Newhaven Town and Newhaven Harbour (please check your timetable for options). Please follow the Instructions for walking above as you will need to use the EAST QUAY entrance on Beach Road, BN9 0BX.
4) By AirThe closest airport is London Gatwick. Trains run every 30 minutes and the journey takes less than an hour with 1 change needed at Lewes. We do NOT recommend flying in on the morning of your course as delays can mean you wont arrive until after the course has started and may be refused training.
Other accommodation options are available by searching Airbnb and Booking.com for “Newhaven, East Sussex”.
Further choice is available one train stop away at Seaford to the East, and a bus ride away at Peacehaven, Saltdean in the West.
Brighton is a 40-minute bus journey or short train ride away, but please be aware of travel times to the centre as courses start early.
