TCA – Art Appreciation on Superyachts

This course is the ideal complement to our Art Management training, designed to give you a deeper and more professional knowledge of the art world. 

It provides you with the essential tools to understand the fundamentals of art history, assess how art's value evolves in the modern market, and grasp the unique challenges of managing art onboard a yacht.

This program is delivered by our specialist trainer, Pandora Mather-Lees, a seasoned art professional with more than 20 years of experience in management and sales at the board level. 

Her extensive background provides you with unique insights and practical expertise that go far beyond standard art history.

Course Format

Take this E-learning course at your own pace by following the modules online from the comfort of your home or while being at sea.

Accreditation

  • A TCA certificate will be issued through the successful passing of the online examination.
  • After completing the course, you will officially be part of our Alumni community and will have free access to our Mental Health courses for free as well as discounts on other courses.

Platform access

Students booking onto the Art Appreciation on Superyachts program with The Crew Academy will gain immediate access to the full course content and library of resources. Students must complete all self-study and live training within the 12 month period of booking.

The purpose of this module is to give you an understanding of what art in our society truly means.

Study units include:

Terms and Movements (Module 2) Online Course

The purpose of this module is to give you an understanding of what the study of art history involves. We will learn about the movements, periods and schools of artists and how they fit together with other aspects of our culture.

Study units include:

  • Antiquity to abstraction - a timeline

  • Figurative vs abstract

  • Vocabulary of the art world

  • Post-impressionism 

  • Surrealism

Art Appreciation (Module 3) Online Course

The purpose of this module is to teach you all about the historiography of art.

Fakes, Forgeries and Art Forensics (Module 4) Online Course

The purpose of this module is to give you an insight into fake artworks, and how to spot them, as well as introducing you to some of the greatest forgers in history, and why fakes and forgeries impact the art market.

Study units include:

  • Fakes vs forgeries

  • Historical case studies

  • Famous art forgeres

The Onboard Environment of Art ( Module 5) Online Course

The purpose of this module is to introduce you to art within the superyacht industry, the different mediums of art which you may encounter, as well as typical artists and artworks. 

Study units include:

  • Underwater cultural heritage

  • Superyacht owner as an art collector

  • Arts and yachts

  • Yachting trends impacting interiors

  • The different types of art

  • Photography

  • Typical artists

  • Models of ships and yachts

  • Styles of interior art

Exam Online Course

Students must score 80% or above to pass the following timed exams. If necessary a second attempt will be possible.

  1. Art History (60 minutes)
  2. Onboard Environment (30 minutes)
