Course Overview
From the 1st January 2017, it became mandatory for all persons working on commercial vessels, to undertake updated training within 5 years of their original STCW courses, to be able to continue working.
The original certificate is no longer valid on the fifth anniversary of its issue date, and you will not be allowed to remain on the vessel.
We highly recommend you undertake a refresher course well before this happens. This includes Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (FPFF) and Personal Survival Techniques (PST) training. We offer both of these refresher courses together in one basic refresher package at a reduced cost – see below, or individually. For more details of these individual refresher course dates or prices, please phone or email us.
MCA STCW - Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
MCA STCW - Personal Survival Techniques
NOTE: If your certificate has already expired, you can still refresh it, regardless of the time interval. However, it cannot be refreshed if there is an expiry date printed on the certificate. If this is the case, the certificate will fully expire on that date, and you will have to do the full course again. If in any doubt, or you need clarification, please phone or email us for advice.
We offer both of these refresher courses together in one package at a reduced cost – see below.
Enhanced Refresher Package
According to STCW regulations, the STCW Elementary First Aid certificate does not need to be updated. However, many shipping companies will not accept certificates more than 5 years old. An increasing number insist that the course is re-taken on a regular basis, sometimes as often as every 2 years!
**If you book a Refresher Package with us, we offer you the chance to update your First Aid qualification for an additional £80.00. And you are invited to join in on the full Fire Fighting course, at no extra charge! This represents superb value for money.**
Who Should Attend
This update training must be undertaken every 5 years, in line with STCW regulations (2010 Manila Amendments) by seafarers who already have the STCW Basic Training certificates.
Providing you hold the full STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting certificate and the Personal Survival Techniques certificate, even if they are more than 5 years old, you can still attend these courses.
Note: STCW certificates issued under the authority of maritime administrations other than the MCA, will be acceptable.
Certificate
On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded with your certificates. These certificates again expire after 5 years and you will need to attend another refresher course.
Note: These certificates are supplementary to your original STCW certificates. You must keep both the original and the update certificates to remain current.
