The Crew Academy's IAMI GUEST-accredited Beyond HR program is the ultimate blended learning experience designed for yacht managers, senior crew, and HR professionals who want to master every aspect of the crew lifecycle. It provides participants with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to build, support, and retain high-performing teams. 

This program is a combination of interactive instructor-led sessions and eLearning materials, covering the essentials of recruitment, management, and compliance for yacht crew over 10 in-depth modules.

By the end of this program, you will not only understand the compliance side of HR, but you will also master the strategic and cultural dimensions that help yacht crew to excel in their roles.

Course Format

  • Blended learning delivered online via kelp.

  • 12 hours of live teaching, Monday to Wednesday, 8am to 12pm UK time

  • Plus an additional 9 hours of guided self-study.

  • 3 online assignments to complete and present during live sessions.

Andrew Roch, the founder of The Crew Academy and The Crew Hunter, brings over 25 years of specialised industry experience to his role as our HR and Leadership trainer.

As a passionate advocate for crew, his commitment is focused on driving positive change and fostering a "people-first" approach within yachting leadership. Andrew's deep knowledge of crew dynamics and long-term career needs provides a crucial perspective for senior leaders looking to maximise their team’s performance and retention.

Before you begin your pre-course reading, you will need to upload the following documents to confirm your eligibility for the course before enrolment.

Please note:

  • Students must possess good knowledge of verbal and written English to successfully complete this program.

  • Students must have some formal basic training and / or 1 season of onboard experience.

  • Students must have a good working knowledge of onboard SOPs and administration.

  • Students must be at least 18 years old.

Live Instructor-Led Training Sessions Instructor Led

This intensive leadership program takes place over zoom with 12 hours of live training with your course trainer Andrew.


Live sessions take place on five recurring days, Monday, to Wednesday, from 8am to 12pm UK time.

Throughout the duration of this program, you will be expected to complete 3 homework assignments to demonstrate the knowledge and skills being discussed in this program.


Task 1 - Create a 1 page presentation on how you would wish your vessel to be perceived in a job advertisement.


Task 2 - Identify the core skills, traits, experience, and background that you wish to find in a new team member, and how to test this in the interview process.


Task 3 - Using your job description from Task 1, produce five interview questions relevant to your vacant position.
