• Students must possess good knowledge of verbal and written English to successfully complete this program.

• Students must have some formal basic training and / or 1 season of onboard experience.

• Students must have a good working knowledge of onboard SOPs and administration.

• Students must be at least 18 years old.

Welcome to the Advanced Leadership program. 

This program is specifically aimed at current and new managers looking to develop the skills, reflection, and confidence needed to lead teams and individuals effectively, particularly within the yachting industry.

The core aim of this program is to equip managers with the essential management and leadership skills to improve the onboard experience on your vessel for all crew. 

We can help you achieve a positive and harmonious work environment that promotes the health, safety, and well-being of those within the team. 

By completing the program, you will acquire the necessary skills, knowledge, and behaviors to ensure your team is engaged, motivated, and highly performing to achieve success. 

Participants will also increase their self-awareness around their abilities, behaviors, and actions, while simultaneously growing and developing core capabilities in leadership, well-being, and agility.

This three-day intensive leadership program takes place over zoom with 18 hours of live training with your course trainer Chanine.

Live sessions take place on three or six recurring days, session times depend on whether you have booked a morning or an evening session.

• 3 day sessions take place - Mon, Tue, Wed, between 8am to 2pm UK time.
• 6 day sessions take place - Mon, Tue, Wed (x2), between 5pm to 8pm UK time.

In this module we explore the topic management and leadership, clarifying their distinct yet interconnected roles and highlighting the importance of adaptability in various contexts. 

We will also discuss key leadership theories, styles, and practical applications to enhance your overall effectiveness as a leader.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

• Analyse and understand the impact a leader has on individuals and the overall team dynamic.

• Identify and differentiate between various different leadership styles.

This module offers you a deep dive into the fundamental things you need to know for effective communication, with a strong emphasis on empathy, cultural awareness, and adaptability in professional interactions.

Here we will explore various communication styles, how to understand sensory systems and their influence on rapport, as well as the importance of constructive feedback and active listening.

By the end of this module you will be able to:

• Identify different communication styles. 
• Understand the elements of effective communication.
• Identify and overcome communication barriers in the workplace.
• Differentiate between Assertive and Aggressive Communication.
• Conduct effective briefings and de-briefings.
• Identify challenges of communication onboard.
• Use open questions to gain understanding of another’s perspective.
• Describe different listening positions and how to be an empathic lister.
• Explain the advantages of being more approachable to others.
• Give and receive constructive feedback effectively.

In this module we will explore the various motivational theories and strategies designed to enhance both individual and team performance.

By deepening your understanding of intrinsic and extrinsic motivators, you'll learn how to tailor your approach to meet the diverse needs of your team and foster higher levels of engagement overall.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

• Define and differentiate between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.
• Identify your own motivational drivers, as well as those of the individuals and team that you lead.
• Implement practical techniques for motivating both yourself and your entire team.

This module provides you with insights into effective team leadership, coaching strategies, and practical tools for enhancing both your team dynamics and individual growth. 

We will teach you how to master practical frameworks such as SMART goals, the GROW coaching model, and psychometric tools to foster stronger collaboration and performance across the team.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

• Define the role and responsibilities of both the team leader and team players, and understand the foundational elements that drive high-performing teams.
• Support and develop individuals by implementing a sustainable learning culture, utilising effective delegation, and applying constructive feedback and performance management systems.
• Set effective goals and objectives for your crew using the SMART goal-setting framework, and articulate the benefits of this practice.
• Apply the full GROW coaching model in various scenarios - from supporting a crew member's career or welfare to managing conflict and handling challenging conversations.
• Effectively mentor & support your team at every step of their journey.

Within this module we with provide you will critical insights into how to manage conflicts effectively, understand dynamics, and how to spot conflicts within your team.

Here you will get a better understanding of emotional intelligence and how to effectively use emotional information to guide thinking and behaviour when influencing and negotiating with individuals.

By the end of this module you will be able to:

• Identify the common causes of conflict and the steps required to manage and resolve a conflict situation with a positive outcome.
• Recognise your own preferred conflict resolution style and adapt it based on the situation.
• Understand the core components of Emotional Intelligence and its critical benefits in leadership.
• Effectively use emotional information to guide your thinking and behavior when influencing and negotiating with individuals.
• Apply the principles of emotional intelligence and conflict resolution to effectively manage interpersonal issues, including dealing with challenging scenarios like bullying and harassment.
• Determine when a conflict situation needs to be escalated and referred to more senior personnel.

The final module of this program is all about Personal Effectiveness, here we will equip you with the necessary tools to manage stress, optimise time, and significantly enhance the performance of your team. 

By mastering these skills, you can improve productivity and resilience whilst encouraging continuous personal and professional growth.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

• Identify the causes and symptoms of stress and fatigue in yourself and others, and effectively apply Resource Management Principles to mitigate these risks.
• Master the principles of time management and productivity, including techniques for effective prioritisation, workload management, and task allocation.
• Adopt a proactive approach to the demands of your role, ensuring your time management directly contributes to sustained productivity and success.
