The Crew Academy's Purser Program is the industry's leading IAMI GUEST accredited Purser program. The Live Out option is specifically designed for students who live or work local to Palma Mallorca, allowing them to participate in the in-person training program.
The Residential option offers an immersive learning environment where students live and learn together for two weeks, with real-time access to your trainer Julia, ensuring you get the most out of every moment and live lesson.
Whereas, students opting in on the Live Out program, have the opportunity to learn in this fully-immersive environment by commuting to the villa for daily training taking place over 10 days.

Course Format
- Held in person in Mallorca over 2 weeks (10 training days).
- 6 hours of daily lectures, Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm.
- 3 hours of daily self-study via kelp.

Meet your trainer
Julia Harris, our Course Director and Purser Trainer here at The Crew Academy, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role after a highly successful 12-year yachting career.
Having facilitated the IAMI GUEST accredited Purser Program for the last 5 years, Julia is a human encyclopaedia of maritime industry regulations, legislation and best practice related to the role of a Purser and is a fountain of knowledge for our students.
Requirements
To participate in the Purser course you need to meet the following requirements:

To succeed in this intensive and fast-paced program, students MUST possess professional working-level English skills. If English is not your first language, you may need to complete the Maritime English for Seafarer's test. To assess your proficiency, you can practice this test at marlins.co.uk.

A good working knowledge of computers and mathematical calculations.

To be at least 25 years old, younger applicants must meet specific entry requirements.
You will also need the following equipment:

Laptop and access to the desktop version of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Chargers, EU adapters (if required).

A calculator and any other stationery you require.
Accreditation
- IAMI GUEST Units 18 to 21 - Yacht Purser
- If you wish to obtain your IAMI GUEST Purser Certificate of Competence (CoC), you will also need to complete the Advanced Leadership Program.
Platform access
Students booking onto the Residential Purser Program with The Crew Academy will gain immediate access to the full course content and library of resources. Students must complete all self-study and live training within the 12 month period of booking.

Welcome to the Purser program.
Before you arrive at our training facility, please familiarise yourself with kelp. our online learning platform. Please also take some time to read through the pre-course material which you will find below.
Throughout each module, you will find additional tasks to complete as you make your way through. This will include core module readings, reflective writing to capture your thoughts on specific areas of the module and learning how to complete a basic set of charter accounts using Microsoft Office.
You may be asked to share and discuss these completed tasks in the live sessions with your course tutor, enhancing your presentation skills.

Upon completion of this survey, all course material will become available to you.
Training takes place daily, excluding weekends, for the duration of your stay. Sessions will run from 9am to 6pm, with regular breaks, and an hour for lunch each day at 12pm, followed by dinner.
Students will also be expected to complete 3 hours of self or group study each day in order to complete the self-study portions of the program, and to complete their homework.
During the weekend, you will have time to explore the beautiful city of Andratx, any local attractions, dine at nearby restaurants, and enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside.
In this self-study module you will be looking at your role as a manager and leader in motivating and engaging staff; how to successfully manage your team in a way that will involve and inspire them.
In this section of the program, you are provided with a variety of resources for you to read.
This includes:
Leadership and management theories and how to flex your management style.
How to identify your preferred management style and its impact on your team.
How to reflect on your role and responsibilities as a manager as well as identifying any areas for improvement in order to ensure the effectiveness of your teams.
Tools and techniques to manage yourself, what motivates you and how to self develop.
The characteristics of an effective team and the tools to effectively manage, support, motivate and develop your team.
The principles of effective communication and giving feedback for high performance.
In this module, we will learn about the role of a Purser.
