Job Description
- Job Title: Senior Trainer / Educator
- Company: YCRT / The Crew Academy
- Location: Based in the UK / EU, to work remotely
- Work schedule: 25 – 30 hours per week subject to workload.
- Teaching times: Vary between midday for some lectures, to 8pm CET for others. Lectures are no longer than 3 hours at a time.
- Vacation: Flexible, 70 to 90 days. No teaching July & August, and December to January each year.
- Salary: €50,000 – €60,000 (subject to experience)
- Report to: Director of Maritime Education & Professional Development.
Job Summary
We are currently on the hunt for a Senior Leader in the maritinme industry who is ready to step ashore or already holds residence in the EU / UK region to join us as our Senior Trainer / Educator at The Crew Academy.
As a key member of our training and development team, you will be responsible for developing and delivering advanced training sessions for senior-level crew, you will be tasked with educating and mentoring captains, project managers, and owner’s representatives operating at the highest levels of the superyacht industry.
Your week will consist of around 25 to 30 hours of work split across around 10 to 14 hours of live teaching over Zoom, 4 to 6 hours of course and content development, 2 to 4 hours of preparation for training sessions, plus any additional time spent on coaching, mentorship, and industry engagement is required within your role.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate online lectures, workshops, and seminars for experienced maritime professionals.
- Apply real-world command and project expertise to guide participants through case-based and scenario-driven learning.
- Lead assessments, mentor participants, and ensure program outcomes align with IAMI, GUEST, and The Crew Academy (TCA) accreditation standards.
- Integrate global best practice in project governance, classification, certification, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with industry partners, shipyards, and technical experts to maintain academic and practical excellence.
- Ensure content reflects evolving standards across IMO, ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, and MLC 2006.
- Provide one-to-one and group mentorship for senior officers, project managers, and owner’s representatives.
- Support leadership growth, decision-making, and professional ethics through structured feedback and psychometric coaching.
- Represent The Crew Academy in industry forums, shipyard partnerships, and professional associations (e.g., SYBAss, IAMI, GUEST).
- Maintain active engagement with shipyards, classification societies, flag administrations, and management firms.
- Contribute to The Crew Academy’s research and knowledge initiatives, thought-leadership papers, and webinars.
Qualifications / Experience
Essential Experience
- Command-level experience aboard superyachts or large vessels.
- Proven track record in new build project management, refits, and compliance.
- Strong understanding of classification and certification processes.
- Confident educator with strong presentation, communication, and mentoring skills.
Desriable Experience
- Background in training, lecturing, or professional education.
- Familiarity with GUEST/IAMI accreditation and modern online learning platforms.
- Professional qualifications in management, quality assurance, or education.
